How Do Huggies Slip-On Diapers Work?
By
Has anyone tried Huggies new slip-on diapers? Though I’m still primarily using cloth diapers, I do like to use disposables once in a while when I’m feeling lazy. And since I was able to use a couple of coupons to get a pack of Huggies Slip-Ons for free, I figured I’d give them a try. They sound simple enough in theory: instead of using Velcro tabs to fasten the diaper, you can simply slip the diapers over your baby’s legs. I assumed they would work similar to pull-ups or regular underwear.
But I’ve now tried to use these diapers three times to no avail. Despite being called “slip-on,” the diapers do have tabs on the sides. However, the fastening mechanism doesn’t really fasten at all (it’s like really unclingy Velcro). So, I’m baffled as to how they are supposed to work! I was hoping that these diapers might be a step in the potty-training direction (since I assumed that the child could pull them up like real underwear). But since I can’t even figure them out, there’s no chance that my
son will figure them out! (Actually, that’s very untrue. My toddler has fixed two of his toys after I deemed them totally broken, revived an old CD player that hadn’t worked in months, and showed me how to use the coffeemaker since I don’t drink coffee.) Now that I think about it, I’m going to let him play with one of these diapers, and he’ll probably have it figured out within minutes.
Has anyone used these diapers? If so, what the heck am I doing wrong?!

It looks like they are supposed to come ‘per-assembled’ so that if you undo the velcro part, they’re done and ready to be tossed.
Hope that helps!
Well, I’m sure glad Molly cleared that up because I’ve been wondering why anyone on earth thought pulling a diaper filled with poop down a wiggling child’s legs seemed like a good idea to ANYONE. These seem much less like a nightmare if they DO actually come apart….
Though I haven’t tried these, the velcro sides look just like the Huggies pull-ups that we get. They are meant to stay together but with the pull-ups, if you pull the sides apart they will easily stick back together (though it’s difficult to line up the velcro). My guess is if it isn’t clear how you’d put it back together, that you’re meant to keep them fastened like underwear. I think that gives you the option to lay him down and take it off like a diaper or pull them down like underwear. Good luck with potty training!
hmmm, I haven’t tried them, but they sound like they would work like pullups, but maybe more effort than pullups. We switched P to underpants 2 weeks ago. I will probably skip the whole pullup thing completely except maybe for when he is under someone else’s watch at Mother’s Day out. He has been wearing underpants for almost 2 weeks now. I am not ready to proclaim him fully trained since he has had at least 1 accident most days, but we are on our way and I am not going back now. I think it comes with the territory when you train early. The process may take a little longer, but you are done a LOT sooner and save yourself months and months of diaper changes!
